Reason's to Consider a Standby Generator

The idea of owning a standby generator sounds great right? But then you consider the cost. Your neighbor has one, your family members own one, but you're just not sure if you're in a position to purchase one yourself.

It does seem great and all to not have to deal with power outages when they happen, but outside of that, what's the big deal? We should all just be able to deal with these inconveniences right? Our ancestors before us did, so why shouldn't we?

Well, that's all well and good, but times are very different now and there are many reasons as to why you should at least consider the benefits that owning a standby generator can bring to you.

Reason 1: You have your own personal power source

Within seconds of a power outage your standby generator will kick power back to your homes electrical circuits so you can stay safe in shelter (especially if there is a storm).

Reason 2: We can't control the weather

Most power outages are weather related. As the number and severity of extreme weather related events are occurring so are the number of power outages lasting 24 hours or more.

Reason 3: Your life may actually depend on a generator

Your life or someone you know might actually depend on electricity to stay alive. CPAP equipment relies on electricity, diabetic medication needs to be refrigerated, at home dialysis equipment, nebulizers, oxygen concentrators all need electricity to function. Sure there are temporary backups, but what if the equipment supply companies can't get to you in time?

Reason 4 : Well water requires electricity

Sounds strange--but there is a pump that gets the water out of the well that is electric. So to keep an ample supply clean filtered water--you need electricity.

Reason 5: Long Running Time

Generators are built to run for long periods of time (provided you stick to keeping them maintained like a vehicle) so that if you do have a long power outage, you will be in good shape (just keep track of your fuel supply!)

Reason 6: You can continue to work from home

If you run a business or work from home, you know how critical it is to have all systems-a-go. Even a few minutes can really impact your clients and your work.

Reason 7: Remote Monitoring

You will have the peace of mind wherever you are knowing the status of your home because many generators come with the capacity to communicate with your cell phone.

Reason 8: You have a hybrid or electric car

Gotta keep those things charged. You don't want to run the risk of being stranded do you? Especially in the event of an emergency.

Reason 9: Saves Food from Spoiling

Thats the worst! Either trying to transfer food to coolers, hoping to be able to get enough ice and stay on top of it, or risk losing the hundreds of dollars of food in your fridge and freezer and then having to replace it all. All it will take is a couple of long term outages to put a dent in the cost of a standby generator. Think long term on this one.

Reason 10: Peace of Mind

You can't go wrong with having the peace of mind of a standby generator. You know your family will be comfortable, your needs will be met, you'll stay warm, your health needs will be secure, and you'll be able to provide a safe haven for family and friends. And don't forget--the shower. Who likes to go days without being able to shower. Ugh...THE WORST!
